Itinerary

Day 1 HANOI – NGHIA LO – MU CANG CHAI (L, D, 300km)

Morning pickup at your hotel in Hanoi, then driving west on highway to Nghia Lo district of Yen Bai province. Have a lunch at local restaurant in Nghia Lo. Then keep on driving up to Mu Cang Chai. We stop-over in Tu Le for visiting and admire of the imposing landscape of mountains and valleys and the beautiful rice terrace filed of this area – Tu Le, Van Chan district.

Go on driving over Khau Pha Pass – one of the most scenic passes of Vietnam where heaven and earth meet, you will stop for rest, sightseeing, photographing at Khau Pha Pass – the longest pass with the length of 32km and the height of 2100m. From here, you will feel the beauty of Cao Pha valley and some of hill tribe village from above.

Dinner and overnight at homestay in Mu Cang Chai.

Day 2 MU CANG CHAI – SAPA (B, L, D)

After breakfast, we get a transfer to a trekking point for a half day trekking to enjoy Vietnam’s national rice terrace heritage of Mu Cang Chai. Our trek starts from Che Cu Nha commune to La Pan Tan commune (It’s about 13 km). This trek will definitely offer us a good opportunity to see the main spots and admire the beauty of amazing rice terraces that Mu Cang Chai has to offer. We will also be able to visit a few villages of the H’mong hill tribe scattered in the area.

Have lunch at restaurant in Mu Cang Chai, then keep on driving up to Sapa town, scenic drive passing some beautiful mountain pass, through wonderful landmarks such as Than Uyen, Tan Uyen, Tam Duong before reaching to Sapa. Check in your hotel and rest.

Dinner and overnight in Sapa town.

Day 3 SAPA – LAO CHAI, TA VAN VILLAGE (B, L, D)

Lao Chai & Ta Van villages, about 8 km from Sapa town, where black H’mong and Dzay people are living. Here you will enjoy the fresh air, see terraced fields, stream, discover and visit some Black H’mong families.

After breakfast, we start trekking down to Lao Chai village of Black H’mong ethnic people. Here you will discover their daily life. Visit the biggest valley which provides the best view for golden rice terrace fields in Vietnam. Have lunch at local restaurant. After Lao Chai you walk to Ta Van village of Dzay people. It is a small group of ethnic people in Vietnam with a rich culture and beautiful houses located on rice paddy fields.

Dinner and overnight in Sapa.

Day 4 CAT CAT VILLAGE – SAPA – BAC HA (B, L, D)

The morning you travel to Cat Cat village, inhabited by the H’mong people, a French colonial area and a renowned resort for officials from the early 20th century. Visit the hydro-power station and the waterfall of Cat Cat village. Learn about the culture and customs of H’mong people including traditional crafts such as weaving, carved silver and hand-forged agricultural tools.

Transfer back hotel for lunch and checking out. Continue driving to Bac Ha district of Lao Cai province.

Arrive to Bac Ha town, pay a visit the H’mong King’s palace – Hoang A Tuong with the beauty of Asia – Europe mixed art.

Check in hotel, dinner and overnight in Bac Ha.

Day 5 BAC HA MARKET – HANOI (B, L)

You may be woken up early in the morning by the domestic animals such as roosters or pigs.
After breakfast, get on a short transfer to Bac Ha town for strolling around the colorful Sunday market. The majority who live in Bac Ha is the Flower H’mong people. The colors at the market will tell why they have such a name. This is a great opportunity to learn the local trading, witness the local products for sales. The sounds, the smells and the colors will absolutely make you go Wow while busy taking photographs.

Have lunch at local restaurant. Then we start our driving on highway back to Hanoi.

19.00 arrive back to your hotel in Hanoi city. End of tour.

– You might want to extend the trip one or more days to travel further to Y Ty for more photography opportunities of rice terrace fields
– Bac Ha market is on Sunday, if your time do not fall on the occasion, you will visit another local market like Can Cau market, Coc Ly market..
